Chapel of St. Florian

Klanjec

The Chapel of St. Florian is the votive chapel of the people of Klanjec, who celebrate this saint as their protector. There is a beautiful forest path leading to the chapel and Calvary was erected on the nearby hill. In 1933 the sacred year of the 1900 anniversary of Jesus' death on the cross at Calvary. The people of Klanjec decided to construct a Way of the Cross near the Chapel of St. Florian for this occasion as a permanent monument and reminder. The chapel above Klanjec was first mentioned in 1690. The present chapel was built from the foundations in 1742. The one-nave chapel with a three-sided sanctuary has a bell tower in front, which is opened with arcades on the ground floor and above with smaller windows. A sacristy was added in the south and there is a smaller wooden choir above the entrance.
