Summer in Marija Bistrica

Marija Bistrica sanctuary has had an important central place in the religious life of Croatian people for centuries, was the site for the largest and most important church celebrations. Today, this sanctuary has a beautiful basilica, official consecrated by the pope Pio XI and a votive altar ordered by the Croatian Parliament in 1715. A spacious "Outdoor Church", the "Wall of Faith and Hope" and the Calvary, these are original artworks by Croatian sculptors from the second half of the 20 century. In July there is the manifestation called "Summer in Marija Bistrica", including numerous cultural events, such as: hiking around Marija Bistrica, Wood Cutting Colony, Old Customs, Music Festival, Candle Procession, the Feast day of the Mother of God and Entertainment Night with the Society for Medieval Firearms.
