Jakovlje Castle

Dvorska 5, Jakovlje
Tel: + 385 3351 736

Jakovlje castle was constructed in the 18th century at the foot of the northern slopes of the Medvednica mountain, while the Jakovlje estate was first mentioned already in 1546, when it was bought by Jakov Sekelj from Ormož. Later, the castle changed owners from families Oršić, Gottal, Rauch, Josipović to Kronfeld. The castle was renovated and changed on several occasions, and the present design was finalized in the third phase after the earthquake in 1880, when the middle part of the castle got the Neo-Historicist facade decoration and the arched entrance at the southwest front. The space around the castle is a park, farmyard and premises, the driveway of wild chestnut trees and two sycamore trees, as well as the vegetable garden behind the castle. The park, probably originating in the second half of the 19th century after the last renovation, also contains some sculptures, because the castle serves as living and working premises for artists. The castle is of the third monument category.
