Novi grad Žumberački Fort

Žumberak, Žumberak

Novi grad Žumberački fort, with the Church of St. Nicholas and the Žumberak Shrine, was built for the defense against the Turkish invasion and was also the headquarters of the Uskok captains. It burned down in the 18th century and only the remains were left, mainly covered with dirt. The complex is located outside the village Žumberak, in a valley between two hills. The Church of St. Nicholas (the present building originating from 1654) and the parish hall belong to the site.
