Pottery and Blacksmith Master Tomo

Globočec 18, Marija Bistrica
Tel: + 385 49 469 292; 091 5577 552

Five kilometers from Marija Bistrica, in the little village of Globočec, between the mild slopes of Hrvatsko Zagorje, lives the family of the Master Tomo Kovačić. For generations this family has preserved the pottery tradition, when earth is turned into unique objects of practical and decorative value. The old craft of pottery has almost died out, but Master Tomo, an excellent tool maker and an inventor, recorded all oral family tradition and improved the production process from processing clay until the potter's wheel. Master Tomo is glad to teach his knowledge and experience to the young and other fans of old Zagorje tradition. In the warm and clean workshop, equipped with all pottery tools, there are also objects used in blacksmithing. The finished products, painted and baked show the best craft and are sought after in the Museum of Peasant Uprising in Gornja Stubica, the feast and fair site of Marija Bistrica and other fairs of old crafts in Zagorje.
